St.Mawaggali Trades Training Institute's Policy as an Educational establishment is to uphold the moral, spiritual, cultural formation of the trainees based on Christian principles. The Institution will continue to affirm its staff and students in order to work for peace in a truly just society.

History

CTTI (Mawaggali) is a Government aided and Catholic Church owned Technical Institute. It was founded in 1970 to offer Trade Skills in Automotive Mechanics, Power Electrical, Industrial Machining, Mechanical Fitting, Bricklaying & Plastering and Carpentry & Joinery

A new business portfolio offering Business and Management courses has been added to the traditional programmes.

St.Mawaggali Trades Training Institute Management Board is situated 1.5 km South of Choma Town Centre on the Livingstone Road. It has very good boarding facilities, a Library, lecture rooms, computer lab with high-speed Wifi internet connection and spacious College Hall suitable for various social function.

CHOMA TRADES

CHANGES ITS NAME

The change of the name from Choma Trades to St. Mawaggali Trades Training Institute was actually expected.

From the inception in 1970, the Institute was named St. Mawaggali Trades Training Institute to honour one of the Ugandan Martyrs. These are the Christians who were killed by King Kabako of Uganda for their refusal to convert to another religion rather than Christianity. One of them was Noel Mawaggali.

In 1976 the Christian brothers decided to change the name to Choma Trades. This is because many government Trades Training Institutes at that time were all named after the towns in which they were located.

In 2013, the Diocese of Monze decided that Choma Trades Training Institute needed to revert to its original name of St. Mawaggali Trades Training Institute. Hence the Government was requested to publish a statutory Instrument to effect the change.

In 2017 March, the Statutory Instrument No. 25 of 2017 was issued to effect the change. So the Institute has simply gone back to its original name.
